Crop It

DSC_0983_2Embrace the 90’s throwback of neon, plaid, and cropped tops because their resurrection is still commanding major presence for spring 2014!  Although I don’t consider myself a genuine fan of these trends, I’m discovering I like them in diluted versions.  Such as the case with this H&M top and skirt.  The midriff exposure is minimal and better described as a midriff peekaboo as opposed to midriff baring.  The form fitting silhouette and pinstripe material keep the look polished and elegant to counter the potentially risqué show of tummy skin.  In addition, I think the long sleeves keeps the vibe classy as well as winter appropriate.  I finished off the ensemble with my new favorite peplum coat for a touch of feminine sweetness which helps divert attention from the cropped top.  The cropped fit isn’t all that daunting after all, right?  Now it’s your turn to crop it! 😉

Dots & Stripes

DSC_7310_3Today, I pulled out this blouse because it reminds me of the holidays.  As loud as dots and stripes may sound together, Marc Jacobs harmonized the two very well.  Maybe it’s because of the tone on tone color, thus, shifting the emphasis towards a play on mixed media?  Whatever it is, I adore this top and its lush velvet texture.  To me, what makes this blouse extra special are the dramatic, balloon sleeves and the fun neck tie with the plunging neckline.  Somehow it walks the fine line between sophistication and whimsy in a flirty, boho chic sort of way.  What I love even more is the warm winter we’ve been having which allows me to wear this top fuss-free (without an underlying camisole ;-)).  I’m really looking forward to Christmas as I’ve checked my list twice and I’m as ready as I’ll ever be!  I hope you are ready and excited for Christmas as well!

Festive Feathers

DSC_5375_2This is a blazer….I mean a dress.  Well…,more accurately, a blazer worn as a dress!  I’ve always had an affinity for feather adorned fashion.  It adds that touch of romantic femininity to any look.   Particularly in this instance, the feathers lend that critical femininity to balance this boxy, boyfriend blazer.  Given that Elizabeth and James is usually cut large for my frame and that I sized up, this blazer works perfectly as a dress!  Without stating the obvious, you can recreate this exact look pairing a boyfriend blazer with a feather skirt.  So kick up the glamour in your holiday look this season by flaunting some festive, feathers!

Chanel Tweed

DSC_2169I’m at the Park Hotel in the San Francisco East Bay where the French Château style architecture adds to the charm and elegance of this hotel.  Using this as my inspiration, I started this outfit with this Zara skirt.  This tweed skirt is undeniably, reminiscent of the iconic Chanel tweed.  And what better brand to epitomize Parisian fashion than Chanel?  I usually gravitate towards edgier pieces, but was drawn to this skirt  by it’s modern reiteration with its zipper details.  My natural inclination would be to dress down this skirt with a white tee and a leather jacket.  But today, I wanted to challenge myself to a look which would stretch my own personal style.  Thus, I paired it with a button down shirt instead and then added pieces with colors extrapolated from the skirt.  Lastly, to finish off my French inspired look I grabbed none other than my Chanel bag!  The pièce de résistance!

Grey Zone

DSC_1720_2Like an annual tradition, every winter I tell myself grey is the new black.  It’s probably my most beloved color.  It is genuinely a neutral color covering all colorless shades between black and white.  And because it is achromatic, or colorless, it pairs with ANY color.  That’s a beautiful thing!  However, in spite of it, I decided to wear this achromatic color as a monochromatic look.  This grey on grey with bold stripes and pinstripes ensemble looks casually chic together!  Lastly, for that effortless vibe, a grey slouchy beanie finishes off this monochromatic look.

DSC_1740_2DSC_1862_2DSC_1682_2DSC_1747_2DSC_1908_2DSC_1831_2I picked up these Zara shorts while in New York.  The black is available online right now.  I think this pinstripe version will be available online soon.  So check their site in the next couple of weeks.  It’s a great staple!
