Virtually daily, a little voice in my head advocates for me to dress conservatively and mature. Usually, before I have the chance to really take it into consideration that soft spoken voice is usurped by a boisterous trendy voice. As of late, that’s been any shade of pink, lace, or a 90’s throwback. Today, a truce has been called. Here’s a knee length pencil skirt paired with a crew neck sweater. All very mature and demure if not for the mesh fabric. A fabric typically used for sports jerseys! Mesh is directly on trend with the sports luxe infiltration occurring this upcoming season. Take for instance Chanel’s spring/summer 2014 collection shown at New York Fashion Week where heels were completely MIA and replaced with sneakers. Every look including floor length gowns were paired with flat sneakers, albeit, all custom made! So, if it weren’t for the truce today, I’d be in sneakers! 😉
Hope you had a great weekend and have a happy & stylish Monday!

Apparently, my subconscious self is having a moment with stripes! I know my last post consisted of jailbird stripes as well, but considering the stripes have migrated to my lower half AND varied in width, I deem them to be different. 😉
This striped tube skirt is really versatile as I considered quite an array of colors to pair with it before ultimately settling on black. However, to make sure I didn’t disappointment and to ensure this look is ‘blogworthy’, I cocooned myself in this yellow coat which altogether resembles a bumble bee!
Now, I use the word cocoon deliberately here as this coat effectively insulates via a process called enveloping! The oversized cut envelopes, shields, and insulates so well! Down to my fingertips, in fact, as the sleeve length is also exaggerated! Apparently, the extra long sleeves are the latest trend to hit the runway at Calvin Klein’s Fall/Winter 2014 collection at New York Fashion Week which just wrapped last week!
Hope you are still riding the high from Valentine’s weekend. Have a great Monday!

Hope you had a great weekend. For those who follow me on instagram, you have witnessed my current pale pink obsession from the photo below. Luckily, this trending color and my current obsession are apropos for Valentine’s day. In previous years, I have strong recollections of celebrating Valentine’s day in all black or grey ensembles with a ‘sorry not sorry’ attitude! I’m happy to be breaking out of that mold and styling lots of pink in the next couple of weeks. I hope it sparks some inspiration for your Valentine’s day fashion choices!I’m wearing the palest pink faux leather skirt from Zara. The ruffle draped front and center on this skirt is so girly I was compelled to add some edge to it. The most efficient way to do that is to throw on a motorcycle jacket with prominent hardware. I’m calling this edgy pink! Hope you like it.
I bought this wool fedora back in the fall and I forgot all about it tucked away in my closet. Like a knee-jerk reaction, I reach exclusively for beanies for head insulation primarily because of its understated, effortless vibe. Well, I found my fedora the other day and fell in love with it all over again. As I started to play around with different looks, I had a light bulb, aha moment and vowed to take my fedora out for a spin more often as he plays nice with all my go-to looks! Here, the fedora elevates a basic jeans and sweater outfit to a more standout look.
Whenever borrowing from the boys, I make sure to counterbalance any masculinity by injecting feminine elements. And the fedora is no different. My pants are form fitting with lace up details along the leg. My sweater is a deep plunging V-neck conveniently framing a delicate lace camisole. Last, but not least, my leopard heels solidify that femininity leaving no room for androgynous ambiguity.

Today’s look is more aligned with what every day looks like for me. The backbone to this everyday look starts with skinny jeans and a sweater. But like most items in my wardrobe, I don’t like just a plain pair of skinnies. I prefer added details or interesting washes or coatings. The stud details on these skinnies lend the edgy feel which I love. The sweater is whimsical and fun with sequined stars on the elbows and a reminder to dream. This cropped coat has a fantastic deep hue which ties this look together with a punch of color. The fur collar adds that extra oomph which elevates this coat from plain to glam. The great thing is the fur collar is detachable and can be styled with another look or eliminated altogether. Hope you enjoyed this look!
