Poncho Style

Casual autumn outfit poncho skinny black jeans and booties

Are you at all surprised I’m cozying up to this poncho?  It’s chunky, comfortable, and a fantastic layering piece.  (Not to mention on sale too!)  It’s exactly the kind of winter essential for a perfectly, nonchalant style.  If you love army green as much as I do, you’ll love this one.  And, if you are willing to make a little investment, this classic camel poncho is my ultimate favorite.

Accessorized in Pale Pink

Casual outfit all black and pink accessoriesFor a fleeting moment, I considered blogging a Halloween costume.  And by fleeting, I really mean less than a nanosecond.  Because truth be told, I have never enjoyed dressing in costume.  Not even as a child so I’m not planning to be in costume tonight.  Therefore, instead, I’m wearing a typical relaxing, weekend look for me.  It’s almost all black so that counts towards some Halloween spirit, right?  Orange accessories might have been a better translation, but I just couldn’t.  Not even with the Giants winning the World Series!  Woo! Hoo!  I do like pale pink paired with black though.

Happy Halloween!  Hope it’s fun and safe.  xo

Meatpacking in Bordeaux

DSC_1145_2These photos were taken on a delightful afternoon in the Meatpacking district where wide cobblestone streets, chic boutiques, and fabulous restaurants define its charm!  The weather was uncharacteristic of November in New York.  As you can see, I’m not wearing gloves, a scarf, or a coat!  Because I do so much walking in New York and in anticipation of frigid, rainy weather, I bought these inexpensive booties.  I like these booties because it looks like Rag & Bone Harrow’s identical twin, whom  I’ve been in love with for years.  Much to my surprise, these booties took me through three full days of NYC exploration and were thoroughly comfortable every step of the way.  I highly recommend these booties!  I’d say it’s an investment pair, but there’s no investment needed!

Winter White

DSC_0240_2I’m luxurious yet understated and the palest of hues.  I rival black in versatility and omnipresence.  Often shunned after Labor Day!  Who am I!?

Winter whites are chic, refreshing, and so crisp!  Never to be shunned…except when attending a wedding.  For an extra spotlight on it pair it with neutrals!

DSC_0482_2I’ve paired my winter white ensemble with grey neutral accessories, which is quite possibly my most beloved neutral color.  A pair of knee high boots and  a touch of fur seals this look as a winter white.  Not to be mistaken with summer whites!

Akin to Lingerie

DSC_3902_2Considering my obsession for lace, it’s only natural I gravitate towards lingerie inspired clothing.  Especially, when adorned with none other than…LACE 😉  This dress is really not as daunting as ‘akin to lingerie’ may sound.  Plaid is a print I automatically associate with proper, conservatism, even religion.  Must be an association formulated by my Catholic school upbringing!  Thus, to me, the print offsets the risqué factor which comes along with lingerie inspired fashion and legitimizes it as a daytime dress.  When I bought this dress, I envisioned layering it over a black, thin, long-sleeve shirt paired with stockings or knee high boots.  Something very cozy and autumn-like.  However, with the San Francisco Indian summer still strongly upon us, I couldn’t fathom the thought of that many layers when doing this shoot.  The elimination process began and this is what I was left with.  I did add a casual jacket which would pair effortlessly with this look.  I will try to circle back to this dress during the colder months and show it styled for fall or winter.

‘Boyfriend’ Dress

DSC_2747_2Hello and happy Friday!  Lately, it appears that anywhere one turns the ubiquitous, fashion buzz word which pops up is boyfriend.  The boyfriend blazer, boyfriend jeans, boyfriend tee, boyfriend watch, etc…you get my point.  Born from the seductive notion of wearing your boyfriend’s clothes, the shirt dress is yet another item directly borrowed from men’s fashion.  It has inarguably evolved into an essential staple in women’s fashion.  However, just like any other boyfriend trend, it should not look like you are unquestionably wearing someone else’s clothes.  Rather, a shirt dress should be loosely fitted , but proportioned to accentuate your figure.  Always belt a shirt dress to avoid a frumpy mess!  That’s my only rule.  Other than that, have fun accessorizing a shirt dress because it can be taken any direction.  Casually on a weekend, sexy in the evening, or professionally at the office the shirt dress is VER-SA-TILE! 😉
